Western & Vedic astrology

Your sky, read from your own chart

Western and Vedic readings for today, this week, month, quarter and year. Calculated on your device from the real positions of the planets and your birth details. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Your birth details

Everything is calculated in your browser. Your details are saved only on this device so you don't have to retype them.

How it works

1. Your chart

An astronomical ephemeris running in your browser places the Sun, Moon and planets for the moment you were born. The Western chart uses the tropical zodiac with Placidus houses. The Vedic chart uses the sidereal zodiac (Lahiri ayanamsa), whole-sign houses from your lagna, your Moon's nakshatra and your Vimshottari dasha periods.

2. The sky now

For the period you choose, the engine scans the real sky. It finds every aspect from a moving planet to your natal planets and angles, with its exact time, along with sign and house changes, retrograde stations, new and full Moons, eclipses, secondary progressions, your annual and monthly profection (with its lord of the year) and your solar return chart. On the Vedic side it reads gochara from your Moon sign with vedha, graded by Ashtakavarga bindus and timed by kakshya. It also covers Sade Sati and other Saturn phases, your dasha and its lord's transit, and the day's panchanga.

3. Weighing it

Each event is scored the way an astrologer would weigh it. Slow planets outweigh fast ones, and tight or exact aspects outweigh wide ones. Contacts to your Sun, Moon, Ascendant, Midheaven, chart ruler and lord of the year count most, and themes confirmed by several independent techniques gain weight. Life areas are rated within what your birth chart promises for them. The Both view compares the two traditions area by area, and a birth-time check shows what your stated margin of error could change.

4. Writing it

The words come from an interpretation library written for this app: transits, houses, lunations, stations, gochara results, dashas, taras and tithis. It's assembled for your chart and your dates, so readings change every day and differ from person to person.

Astrology is a tradition for reflection, not a science or a substitute for professional advice. Without a birth time, houses are counted from your Sun sign (Western) and Moon sign (Vedic). Planetary positions come from Astronomy Engine (MIT). Birthplaces come from GeoNames (CC BY 4.0).
